November...
This month's newsletter will focus on how you can enjoy the festive period whilst keeping on top of your nutrition. The festive season is a time for joy, but it can also come with a few challenges—from indulgent foods to packed schedules. Staying healthy over the holidays doesn't mean missing out!
A Bit About Emma Sayers...
Emma Sayers is a Registered Nutritional Therapist, and is passionate about helping people transform their health. Before diving into nutrition, Emma spent years in demanding corporate roles, balancing work with family life as well as keeping active. In her early 40s, Emma experienced her own health struggles and her journey back to wellness, through personalised nutrition, inspired her to retrain as a nutritional therapist. Now she loves guiding others on their own paths to feeling their best.
How to Enjoy Christmas Without the January Regrets...
Here are Emma's top tips to help you enjoy every moment while still feeling strong and energised.
1. Start With a Protein Packed Breakfast - The best way to set yourself up for a balanced day during the festive season is to have a breakfast rich in protein. A protein-packed breakfast stabilises blood sugar, giving you steady energy and helping you avoid those mid-morning snack cravings. Think scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, Greek yogurt with a sprinkle of nuts and seeds, or a smoothie with a scoop of protein powder. Starting your day like this will keep you fuelled, so you're less likely to crash (or reach for the Celebrations) later in the day.
2. Prioritise Protein and Fibre at Each Meal - Including protein and fibre at each meal can help you feel fuller for longer, making it easier to say “no” to second helpings. Turkey, nuts, and beans are all great sources of protein, while fibre-packed options include Brussels sprouts, carrots, and whole grains. Protein and fibre work together to slow digestion and maintain stable blood sugar, keeping you energised and preventing cravings. Together, they keep your blood sugar steady, helping you avoid energy crashes and making it easier to say 'no' to extra helpings.
3. Hydrate Well - Alcohol, rich food, and late nights can dehydrate you fast. Start each day with a big glass of water and keep a water bottle handy at gatherings (yes, even at parties!). For every alcoholic drink, follow up with a glass of water. To make hydration festive, add slices of cucumber, lemon, or fresh berries to your water. Hydrating well makes a huge difference in how you feel the next day.
4. Seasonal Superstars - Some festive foods are actually loaded with nutrients that your body will love! Turkey is packed with lean protein to keep you full and fuelled. Brussels sprouts, love them or hate them, are full of fibre and great for digestion, while chestnuts and satsumas bring plenty of vitamins and antioxidants to the table. Don't forget about parsnips, cranberries, and even red cabbage, which are also rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and fibre. Enjoy these seasonal stars guilt-free—they're working in your favour!
5. Make Time for Restful Sleep - Late nights are tempting over Christmas, but getting good sleep will keep you energised, help with recovery, and make sure you feel your best. Stick to a regular sleep schedule as much as possible during the holidays. A calming tea (like chamomile or peppermint) or a warm bath before bed helps signal to your body that it's time to wind down. Quality rest will keep you feeling ready for all the fun.
